THE RECORDS OF EAST PECKHAM (THE VILLAGERS) RFC
Updates to the Records
May 2009
Taking into account all last season’s performances, the records have been brought up to date finally. Well, apart from matches played during the 2009-10 season obviously.
Some new categories are added to include statistics for the most times four tries have been scored in a match, the most hat tricks and the most times someone has scored more than ten points in a match (all juggable offences in the past).
John Whibley heads both the hat trick and four try list with seven and four respectively. Other notable four try scorers include Mike Haffenden with three and Stuart Johnston and Paul Rucklidge with two each. Those high in the hat trick stakes include Mike Haffenden on six, Phil Caldicott and Stuart Johnston with five each, Lee McCarthy and Dougie Naismith on four each and Danny Baker, Richard Cserjen, Ed De Lucy, Paul Hills, Dave Rees, Matt Rix and Paul Rucklidge all on a hat trick of hat tricks each. The full lists are now available at the end of the piece on Records.
Ed De Lucy scored more than 10 points in a match on a staggering 33 occasions, followed by Dave Hughes on 20, Glen Aukett on 14, John Whibley on 13 and John Dennison on 9. Imagine the days when the top four all played in the same team.
Turning to the caps, Andy Bodle, Kev Turner and Richard Cserjen all extended club records last season. In the top tens, Ross Funnell and Lee Walker both moved up at wing and Tim Shave and Lee Walker both moved up at fly half, the latter displacing Dave Rees. Marc Wright overtook Mickey Paige at scrum half, Chris Masters increased his tally and the inclusion of Steve Guthrie knocked off Stuart Dedman, Simon Read and Pete Thompson all on 12 appearances. At prop Kev Turner extended his appearances and both Dean Scott and Liam Jones moved up. At hooker, Kev Turner, Ade Delahunty and Chris Reeves all extended their appearances as did Andy Bodle, Simon Masters and Brian Robinson at lock, Masters overtaking Chris Chown. At flanker Richard Cserjen, Stuart Johnston and Stuart Dedman extended their appearances and Chris Masters moved into the top ten displacing Phil Shrimpton and Phil Caldicott. At Number 8 Lee McCarthy and Brian Robinson extended their appearances whilst Tom Phillips entered the top ten.
Stuart Johnston jumped ahead of marc McGuigan and became only the 7th Villager to score 400 points, the only one coming the hard way via tries. His 80 put him third in the all time list overtaking Mike Haffenden. Steve Guthrie entered the top ten penalty takers displacing Phil Caldicott and Harry Carden and Steve Guthrie both entered the top ten conversion takers displacing Chips Fretwell and Phil Caldicott.
Matt Rix left for
New Zealand having just about established the perfect strike rate of 1:1 (31:31) overtaking Dougie Naismith’s long standing record of 39:48. Ben Viney entered the top ten with a 20:39 ratio displacing Mark Watkinson.
